Closet Design

Inspirational Pictures for Ideas on Remodeling

closets.jpg

I made a statement to myself last weekend that I would organize my closet. Like so many weekends I was too busy, and did not get to the task. If you are like me, this probably happens a lot. Nonetheless, I believe that my core issue is having a poor closet design. So this morning, I embarked on searching around for pictures and ideas for "what could be". The only down side is that closet remodeling can be very costly. On the other hand, a killer closet is a great selling point when you put a house on the market. These pictures are four of the latest walk-in styles from California Closets. For me the hardest element is not picking out a wood color or style, but deciding on what features I need to best organize my clothes. I have thought about taking inventory of my wardrobe and then measuring the space it would take for my preferred method of organizing: whether it is hanging up or folded storage. I think this is the most practical idea I have come up with. Another consideration is thinking about how much shoe storage I will need. Then the over-arching question is what you will need immediate access to. For seasonal wardrobes, your closet organization needs will change. Via.

Country Style Design Kitchens

The stained oak island with inset white farm sink and chandelier lighting fixture give this restored kitchen a look in keeping with the historic home. White, painted beaded inset cabinetry features turned posts and metallic knobs and pulls.

This French country classic kitchen features off-white painted cabinetry with a brushed black glaze. The kitchen island has table-height seating for five on one end and a planning desk on the other, with a built-in bookcase and other storage in the middle.

With a Wolf range against the wall and a cooktop on the lower level of the island, this country kitchen calls for two range hoods. The mix of copper and stainless steel, as well as the dark and light cabinets and two shades of granite, help to create an unfitted, historical look.

Contemporary Style Design Kitchens

Trends For Your Kitchen Style.

Contemporary styled kitchen’s characteristics are their efficient use of space, their simplicity of form and openness. The cabinetry is simple with little or no decoration; it is often made of prefinished board like laminate, a pale timber veneer, or a lacquered paint MDF board.

The use of glass in overhead cabinets is common and lighting plays a major role. Cabinetry lighting is a feature especially in glass-fronted cupboards and under overhead cupboards to allow light to fall on the counter top.

Halogen is the preferred type, as the fittings are small and provide a lot of light and they literally make everything sparkle. Pendants over breakfast bars or islands are popular.

Windows in the kitchen are functional and generally not decorated unless with a functional blind to reduce the direct sunlight or provide privacy. Color is what makes contemporary style kitchens popular, reds, blues and bright colors. The color is often in the decoration, not the cabinetry. The walls are painted, colored tiles used as a splash back behind the sink or behind the cook top. Accessories are colored and can be changed regularly to create a new look.

The contemporary kitchen is functional and versatile. The appliance colors can be selected from white the most traditional, to black the most sophisticated or stainless steel for a clean hygienic modern feel.

The designer recessed the wall ovens, a utility cabinet and a phone center in the space formerly occupied by coat closets.

Find Staircase Design

Thinking Stair Design?

When designing a staircase, interior designers have a great deal of scope to make a feature within the building.

Stairs are more or less permanent and therefore need a great deal of consideration before they are designed and built.
They have physical safety considerations along with their aesthetic value.

So here you will find some questions to ask yourself before putting pen to paper and design your master staircase! These questions and design process become second nature once you have designed several stairs, but it is always a good prompt for when you have a difficult stair case to design.

Some of the things to consider are:
- Who is going to use the stair?
- What is the stairs primary purpose (accessible, minor, secondary, etc)?'
- Is it going to be a grand feature?
- What is the maximum and minimum width you have to work with within the building?
- How steep will it need to be?
- What will it look like? Theme, permanent materials, easy clean, industrial, indoor, outdoor?
- How many landings will it require to be a comfortable stair to climb?
- Can you use an open or closed riser ?
- The ideal height of the riser and the depth of the tread?
- And on and on it goes?
- Beautiful Stairwell, where are the handrails?

The good thing is that most of the questions can be answered quickly by using your local building codes. They have strict rules as to the stair width, head height, tread width, riser height, and distance traveled before landings are required, balustrade spacings, handrail types and height.

So that is the first place to start, work out what type of stair you need in your building by law, i.e. accessible, minor or secondary. Then all the minimum and maximum measurements will be listed. You can then have a look at your space and start planning from there.

Once you have worked out the legal structural requirements, you can then concentrate on what it will look like

Designing Living Rooms

Living rooms are the room in the house for entertaining guests, retiring at night to relax and read a book, watch tv or a movie, listen to music and more. So you can see why there is so much to consider when you choose to design your living room. There are multiple spaces within one space that need to be designed.
More often than not, the television becomes the focal point of the living room. This is great if you spend all your time watching TV, but not so good if you want to make your living room multi functional. Some people have the luxury of having a family room, here they keep the television and leave the living room for more formal occasions and entertaining. Whatever the case, the living room is often the room in which people judge our design taste!

So the living room should portray you and your family's personality, what you are interested in, your collections, your artwork, your travels, all the things that make your living room feel like home and comfortable to you. It should house all the things that you love to have around you. Not things that you think you should have because they are in fashion or the style of the moment. So take a look at these articles to get some ideas for decorating and planning your living room.

altar candleholder

Designer Kevin Reilly’s inspired suspended candleholder combines the flickering magic of candlelight with the clean, minimal lines of 21st Century design.

Even under extreme temperatures Reilly’s newly patented candle wax does not melt allowing specially designed bulbs to be used permitting you to bathe any room in your home in a warm amber glow without the fuss of replacing the candles or cleaning up dripping wax. Of course, being electrically-powered the light unit can be used in conjunction with a dimmer switch offering endless possibilities for differing light levels; the magic of centuries-old lighting methods combined with modern convenience.

Ernest table

World-famous author Ernest Hemingway is possibly the inspiration for this fascinating piece. As always from Promemoria this is a perfectly tuned item and a functional yet attractive addition to your home office.

Fashioned from oak, rosewood, maple and ebony this item more than embodies the clean style we have come to expect from the inimitable Italian firm Promemoria and in particular its chief designer Romeo Sozzi. The desk and stool are noticeable by their simple, slender design; the delicate legs are fashioned from anthracite beech while the unobtrusive drawers glide silently in and out of position. An Italian air is lent to this item by the use of dark leather inlays in the drawers and on the desktop. Bronze fittings strike a neat balance between modern style and old-fashioned chic. Sozzi’s preponderance for muted, natural shades is satisfied as the Ernest set is also available finished with deep brown and hazelnut leather.
